CORRIS RAILWAY
| In common with other Narrow Gauge railways in North Wales the Corris line 2'3" gauge was founded to service the quarries of Aberllefenni and Corris in the 1860's. The line ran from Corris to Machynlleth, where slate was transshipped to the standard gauge network until closure in 1948.Restoration began with the founding of a museum in the old stables of Corris Station, recent events have seen reinstatement of the line to the old engine shed at Maespoeth for passenger traffic, a distance of about 3/4 mile, with aspirations taking it further to Tan-y-coed.The construction of a new Tatto class steam loco is in progress and should be running in the near future. |
